What is Botulinum toxin A and how does it work?
Botox is a very pure preparation of a protein, Botulinum toxin type A. When small doses are injected into the skin, Botox blocks the actions of the nerves that supply muscles, thereby preventing the skin from creasing. This has the benefit of reversing any lines/wrinkles present as well as preventing any new ones from appearing in the region treated.
What is Botulinum toxin A used for?
Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment for moderate to severe frown lines. It is typically used in people aged 18 to 65. It has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles, and botox injections are becoming increasingly popular.
How Is the Procedure performed?
The procedure takes only a few minutes and no anaesthetic is required. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. It generally takes three to seven days for the effects to start. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped seven days before treatment in order to reduce bruising, but please consult with your doctor beforehand if taking prescription drugs.
How are Botulinum toxin A injections different from Dermal Fillers?
BOTOX ® is a protein that relaxes the muscles that create lines, whereas Restylane is an agent that fills in the lines. Botox is for more for dynamic lines which move or are caused due to facial expression. Static lines / folds that are permanent can be treated by dermal fillers.

How long does an injection take?
Botulinum toxin injections for wrinkle treatment take approximately 10 minutes to administer. However, your total consultation time will be around 20-30 minutes.
Do Injections Hurt?
Most of our Botulinum toxin A injection patients compare the sensation of receiving an injection to a small bug bite lasting seconds.
What should I do after receiving an injection?
No exercising or lying down for 3-4 hours after injections is recommended. Do not excessively touch / massage the area that was treated for at least the first 4 hours after injection. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours. You should notice an improvement in your frown lines within 3 to 7 days, the effects of which can last up to 4 months. However, results may vary. After a period of time your frown lines will begin to reappear as the effects of botox wears off.
How long does it last?
The effect lasts for up to four to six months.
How often should I have treatments?
We recommend to schedule treatments about every four to six months to help maintain a consistent appearance in the first year. Then on treatment can be delayed by a few months each time as your wrinkles have become lighter. However, your cosmetic doctor will be best able to make a recommendation that is tailored towards your personal expectations.
Where does it go after it wears off?
Because it is a natural toxin and a purified protein, over time it is slowly absorbed and processed by the body.
